Irmãos Mello Birding Tours

I took a private birding tour with Gabriel in Tijuca Park and Botanical gardens and had an amazing experience. I'm not familiar with Brazil and hiking in nature and by myself, really wanted a professional tour guide. Gabriel knowledge and skills as a guide are phenomenal and I'm really great for taking this tour

There are so many good things to say about my experience birding with Daniel and Gabriel of Irmãos Mello Birding Tours in the Mata Atlantica, not far from Rio. These guys are ideal guides. They are friendly, enthusiastic and patient and know the ideal habitats and songs to find a wide variety of birds. The base camp" for some fantastic birding was Tukani Lodge

The Mello twins were probably the best bird guides I've ever had in my life. I know what it takes to be a good one because I used to guide years ago. Not only are they completely attentive to your needs before you even think of them, they also really know their stuff about birds, and they're good at getting people on them which is not always. Very humble also.. they've authored a regional guide and are working on a regional bird call app but rarely talk about these great accomplishments. On a scale of 1-10 they are 14.

I had such an awesome time birding with the Mello brothers! I was beyond impressed by their knowledge of the species we encountered. What really stood out, though, is their ability to identify the songs and calls of every bird we heard. This means that we were able to locate many species, including endemic birds, very easily. As a photographer, I really appreciated their expertise, and I am walking away with some beautiful images. If I return to Brazil, I will not hesitate to book another tour with them. It truly was an amazing experience!

We had an incredible birding experience with Daniel. He is an expert authority on birds and bird photography. We saw and photographed many species even though it is midsummer and the daytime temperatures were high. We also enjoyed the food and hospitality at Casa Tukani. I rate this as a very special experience.

Eu e meu esposo, passarinheiro aplicado em seu hobbie, tivemos o prazer de sermos guiados pelo experiente e aplicadíssimo Daniel Mello por dois muito produtivos dias no mês de maio/2023. Conhecíamos a excelente fama que a empresa, na pessoa dos sócios, tinha, mas a experiência vivenciada superou as altas expectativas. O Daniel nos pediu uma lista de nosso interesse antes das passarinhadas e ele focou nas aves de nossos interesses, nos levando a diversos locais para podemos avistar o que pretendíamos. O Daniel, quem nos atendeu, é muito competente e além de saber os locais de avistamentos, tem um ouvido impressionante para identificar as aves apenas pelo canto, de forma certeira e precisa. Além disso, ele foi pontual e muito atencioso e gentil conosco desde o primeiro contato por telefone até o final das atividades. Foram dois dias incríveis e só temos a agradecer pelo excepcional trabalho prestado. Empresa recomendadíssima.

Absolutely brilliant. Daniel and Gabriel are extremely knowledgeable, professional, patient, and friendly. I needed some Portuguese practice but they are both fluent in English. The amount of birds that they were able to locate and identify was mind-blowing. While I go out and locate perhaps 15 or 20 in a day, also in the Atlantic Forest, we were rocking upwards of 80 - and managed to get photos of most.In addition, the accommodation is clean and well presented, and the food is divine - restaurant class meals. I'm a pescatarian and this was accommodated with absolute ease. 5/5 and I'll be back out with them for winter birding!

Gabriel was an exceptional guide! He knows all of the birds by sight, song, and call and he is incredibly enthusiastic about birding and guiding. I enjoyed our trip through Tijuca NP. Gabriel helped me with recording bird songs and calls. We had a great day of birding and I enjoyed visiting with Gabriel along the way. He knows the park very well and where different species tend to be found a long the trails and roads. I highly employing recommend Gabriel as your guide when birding in Rio. You won't be disappointed!
